This is a new service offering for Greasypixel Photography. I'm building my First Communion portfolio this season — which means introductory pricing for you and my full attention on every session.
Based in Kitchener and serving Catholic families across Waterloo, Cambridge, and the surrounding Region, Greasypixel Photography offers outdoor First Holy Communion portrait sessions that honour the sacrament with quiet, editorial dignity.
The Philosophy
Sacred, not staged. The ceremony speaks for itself — the portraits should too.
First Holy Communion is one of the most meaningful milestones in a child's faith journey. My approach to First Communion photography in Kitchener and Waterloo is rooted in restraint and reverence — no forced poses, no cluttered backdrops. Just your child, in their whites, in the natural light of a beautiful outdoor setting, with the family that raised them in faith. These are the images that will live on a wall and outlast every other photograph from this day.
Currently accepting a limited number of First Communion bookings for the 2026 season at honest introductory pricing. Sessions are outdoor only, scheduled post-ceremony at a location of your choice across the Waterloo Region.

The Pillars
— What Every Session Is Built Around
Natural Light Portraiture
Every First Communion session is shot entirely in natural outdoor light — no flash, no artificial fill. The soft, directional light of a spring or early summer afternoon in Kitchener or Waterloo is the only backdrop your child needs. It flatters the whites, honours the moment, and produces images that feel alive rather than lit.
The Child First
First Communion photography in Kitchener and Waterloo tends to run stiff — too many formal poses, too much pressure on a child who has just been through an emotionally significant ceremony. I work at their pace. We talk, we walk, we find the quiet moments between the posed ones. That's where the real portraits live.
Family as Context
The communicant is the subject — but the family is the story. Grandparents who travelled to be there. Siblings in their own Sunday best. Parents who watched their child take this step in faith. The Sacrament and Legacy tiers are designed to capture all of it, with enough time to do justice to every relationship in the frame.
Kitchener First Communion Photographer
Kitchener has no shortage of beautiful outdoor portrait locations — from the manicured gardens of Victoria Park to the quiet green spaces surrounding local parishes. I work with you to choose a location that feels natural to your family and carries the visual weight the occasion deserves.
Waterloo First Communion Photographer
Waterloo Park, Laurel Creek Conservation Area, and the quiet streets surrounding local Catholic parishes offer some of the most naturally beautiful outdoor portrait settings in the Region. First Communion sessions in Waterloo benefit from the area's mature tree canopy and soft, dappled light — ideal conditions for outdoor portraiture in white.
Cambridge First Communion Photographer
The heritage character of Galt and the Grand River trails give Cambridge First Communion sessions a timeless, almost painterly quality. Whether you're celebrating near Sacred Heart or another local parish, I can recommend outdoor locations nearby that complement the formality of the occasion without feeling staged.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you photograph inside the church during the ceremony? ↓
No — all sessions are outdoor portrait sessions scheduled after the ceremony. There is no in-church coverage. This keeps the session relaxed and flexible, and means your family can be fully present during the ceremony without a photographer in the aisle. Post-ceremony outdoor portraits consistently produce stronger, more natural images than in-church coverage anyway.
Where do outdoor sessions take place? ↓
Sessions take place at an outdoor location of your choice anywhere across Kitchener, Waterloo, or Cambridge — a park near your parish, your family home's garden, or a favourite local green space. After booking I'll share my recommended locations for First Communion sessions across the Region based on the season and the look you want for your portraits.
How soon after the ceremony should we schedule the session? ↓
Ideally within 1–2 hours of the ceremony ending, while everyone is still dressed and the energy of the day is still present. I recommend scheduling portraits before any reception or celebration meal — children are at their most patient before the excitement of the party begins. We'll coordinate exact timing after your ceremony date is confirmed.
Why is the pricing described as introductory? ↓
First Holy Communion photography is a new service offering for Greasypixel Photography. I'm accepting a limited number of sessions this season at honest, below-market pricing in exchange for portfolio-building images and genuine testimonials. Pricing will be revised upward in future seasons as the portfolio grows. Booking now locks in the introductory rate permanently for your session.
What if the weather doesn't cooperate? ↓
Southern Ontario spring weather is unpredictable — I monitor forecasts closely as your date approaches. If rain is likely we'll discuss options: rescheduling to the next available clear date at no extra cost, or finding a sheltered outdoor location that still works for portraits. A light overcast sky can actually produce beautiful, even light — not all clouds are bad news for photography.
